If you love the idea of Byron Bay but prefer things a little more relaxed, Brunswick Heads might be your perfect escape. We stayed right in town at Reflections Holiday Park Brunswick Heads, where everything is just a short stroll away – beaches, cafés, boutiques, and the pub.

Brunswick Heads Commonly Known as Bruns

Bruns (as the locals call it) gave me the vibes of what I imagine Byron was like back in the day – before the big-brand stores and Insta crowds. Here, it’s all about charming independents with just the right touch of quirk, friendly locals, and crystal-clear waters crossed by the quaintest pedestrian bridges.

One standout this time around was Hotel Brunswick. You can now bring your dog into the beer garden – which, by the way, is one of the biggest I’ve seen. That wasn’t the case on our visit three years ago, so it was a welcome surprise. The pub is now home to The Ducks, run by the team behind Three Blue Ducks. The hubby claims his chicken schnitty was one of the best he's ever had. I took the plunge and tried cuttlefish for the first time – and it was excellent.

Since the 1950s, Bruns Bakery has been cherished by local couple Kurt and Mel. Enjoy a wide selection of baked treats, fresh sandwiches, and Campos coffee, and soak in the great atmosphere! Options for vegans, vegetarians, and those who prefer gluten-free are available.

The Farm Byron Bay

Just a 12-minute drive from Bruns, we visited The Farm at Byron Bay. It was a perfect morning out, wandering through paddocks of free-range chickens (with their adorable chook tractors), spotting a miniature Highland cow, turkeys, goats, and enjoying a slow walk through the organic food forest.

Lunch at Three Blue Ducks at The Farm was a highlight. We were greeted by one of the owners, Sam, and treated to a delicious tuna sashimi with finger lime and chilli salsa, followed by a rich and satisfying pork belly main.

Brunswick Heads is one of those little towns that stays with you – full of charm, heart, and great food. We’d love to stay longer, but with the chilly weather chasing us, it’s time to keep heading north.
